There are several reasons why it is a good idea to have a Gmail account:
- Google Services. A Gmail account gives you instant access to a wide range of Google services, such as Blogger.com or GoogleDocuments.
- Alternate email address. Sometimes OU email is unavailable for technical reasons (every semester there is usually an outage, sometimes as long as an entire day). In such situations, it is good to have a reliable alternate email address.
- Long-term email address. When you graduate from OU, you will lose your ou.edu email address within a few months of graduating. It's a good idea to have another email account that you will be able to keep after you graduate. Having a Google Gmail account is a great option, especially as you look for a job after you graduate. In general, a Gmail account address will make a better impression on potential employers than a Hotmail or Yahoo account.
