Ning: Embed a YouTube video in your Ning Profile Page

One of the big advantages of the YouTube video website is that if offers an "embed" code which allows you to display YouTube videos on your own webpages. For this Tech Tip, you will add a YouTube video to your Ning Profile page. You can see a YouTube video on my Ning profile page, for example. Other online video services also have an "embed" option - for this assignment, you can use any video service that offers embedding.

STEP ONE: Find video. Find a video at YouTube that you want to use. You will find the embed code in the right-hand column, next to the video.

STEP TWO: Add video. Go to the class Ning, and click on My Page. You have a Text Box on that page where you can include any content that you want - including a YouTube video.

When you first go to your Profile page ("My Page"), you will see a box where you can add text, images, links - whatever you want! Just click on Edit to get started.

You can follow the instructions for adding text, images, and links just like for blog posts, and you can also include a YouTube video in the box if you want!

To add a YouTube video, you will need to copy the "embed" code from the YouTube video page (or you can copy it from the YouTube video itself). Here is what the embed code looks like in the right-hand column of a typical YouTube video page:

So, go ahead and type whatever text you want in your Ning box, then position the cursor where you want the YouTube video to go, and paste in the embed code:

To see the results, just click Save!

You can edit the contents of the box as often as you want, making changes or additions any time!

STEP THREE: Email. When you are done, send me an email containing the ADDRESS OF YOUR PROFILE PAGE and make sure you use this subject line for the email: TechTip Ning YouTube.
