When you are working with image files, it is important to use an image file that is the right size for the purpose you need. You should never use your webpage editor to resize the image, because that will cause it to degrade in quality. Instead, if you need to resize an image, you need to actually change the image file with software designed for resizing images. When images cannot be made larger, it is easier to make a smaller version of an image, using the appropriate software.
Image editing software. If you already have image editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, on your computer, you can complete this assignment using that software. If, however, you just need to resize a few images, you may find it easiest to do that using online services, such as Picnik.com, which allows you not only to resize images but also to crop them and other editing options. Here are instructions for getting started with Picnik.com.
Resize the sunflower. For the purposes of this assignment, you are free to use any kind of software program or online service. What you need to do is to take this large image of a sunflower and resize it, sending me back a smaller version in the email, 400 pixels wide. If you are using Picnik.com, here are the step by step instructions:
- click on the large image of a sunflower
- right-mouse click on the image and save it to your desktop
- go to Picnik.com and click "get started"
- click Upload Photo and upload the large sunflower from your desktop
- click the Resize button, enter 400 as the new width (keeping the same proportions), and then click OK
- give the file a name like "smallsunflower" and Save Photo
- save the resized "smallsunflower" to your desktop
Send email. When you finish the assignment, send me an email with the new image file attached. Do not attach the original jumbo image; you should only send the smaller version of the image which you have created. Make sure you use this subject line for the email: TechTip Resize.
When you have sent in the email, you can do the Gradebook Declaration for Extra Credit. Here is the text of the Gradebook Declaration you will complete:

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
