Syllabus: Storybook Schedule

Standard Schedule. There is a standard schedule that most students in the class will end up following. By the end of the semester, however, about half of you will be on one of the "flexible schedules" Here is the standard schedule:

Flexible Schedule. In addition to the standard schedule, some students will end up on a schedule that is one or two or more weeks "off" the regular schedule by the time the semester is over. There are two main reasons why you might get on a different schedule:

  • you skip a week and do not turn in a Storybook assignment (for example, you might choose to skip a Storybook week on purpose, such as when you have midterms in your other classes)
  • you turn in an assignment but it has to be redone (for example, you might need to do a second round of revisions for a given story, if really extensive revisions are required)

There is absolutely nothing at all wrong with being one or two or even three weeks behind on your Storybook. You can make up the missing points with extra credit, and you will still end up with three stories total in your Storybook by the end of the semester. So, especially if you have a very heavy course load, or if you are working full time while going to school, keep in mind that you can skip a few Storybook assignments during the semester with no real harm done.

If you become four or five weeks behind schedule, things get more complicated. You will end up with just two stories in your Storybook, and you will receive few or no comments back from other students in the class as a result. Plus, be careful: if you fall more than five weeks behind, you will NOT be allowed to turn in any more Storybook assignments. So, if you have missed five Storybook assignments, you have no more freedom to skip any more assignments.

Keep track of your schedule! Because of the flexible schedule, you need to be clear about exactly what assignment you are supposed to turn in. If you are ever NOT sure about what assignment you are supposed to turn in, check the most recent Storybook email you received from me with comments; that email will contain specific instructions about what assignment you need to turn in next. If after reading my comments you are still not sure exactly what Storybook assignment to turn in during any given week, let me know!

1 week off - 2 weeks off - 3 weeks off - 4 weeks off - 5 weeks off
