Week 5 Assignments

BREAK WEEK: During Spring 2021, Week 5 is a break week! You can take this week off completely, or you can do some/all of the assignments as extra credit; it's totally up to you. You will see that there is a Week 5 Break item in the Canvas Gradebook and you will have 30 points in there already when Week 5 begins. All the regular Week 5 assignments are also available in Canvas, so you can use those for extra points this week if you want/need to do that. More about the break weeks here.

Catching up. If you have not checked on your progress in Canvas so far this semester, I would urge you to do that now. There's a Progress Chart so that you can see if you are on track for your grade goal for this semester. If you have missed some work earlier in the semester, you can use this week to make up those missing points and get back on track.

READING

BREAK WEEK: These assignments are extra credit.

Click on the link for your class to find out more:

Here are the Notes guidelines plus all the different Reading Notes Strategies to experiment with. Have you tried any of the research strategies? Wikipedia, Google Maps, and other online resources can help you find answers to questions as you read, and then you can incorporate those background details into your story and/or your author's note. Research is useful for any kind of storytelling, both for fiction and for real-world stories.

Tuesday due date: READING

4 points  appx. 1-2 hours
Wednesday due date: READING  4 points  appx. 1-2 hours

STORYTELLING

BREAK WEEK: This assignments is extra credit.

Thursday due date: STORYTELLING

4 points  appx. 1 hour

Here are the assignment guidelines: Week 5 Storytelling. This will be your third (or fourth) story for the semester, and I hope you are feeling more and more confident in your creativity with each new story that you write. :-)

PROJECT - FEEDBACK - COMMENTS

Here are the final assignments for the week:

BREAK WEEK: These assignments are extra credit.

PROJECT

8 points  appx. 60-90 min.

Check the email you received from me last week to see what you have due for Week 5; you will find all the assignment links on the Project Overview page.

Everybody is now going on their own schedule, and just what you have due each week depends on whether you are doing a Storybook or Portfolio, whether you have missed any previous assignments, your revision process, etc. etc. So, always start the Project assignment by checking the last email you received from me to see what comes next. I always include a link to the next assignment in that email. (And if I forgot to do that, or if you need me to send you the email again, just let me know.)

PROJECT FEEDBACK 6 points 45 min. - 1 hour

This week you will practice some different feedback strategies. The key to giving good feedback is to find the kinds of strategies that you feel most comfortable with, and that way you can figure out how to use your own strengths to help others with their writing. I hope this week's new strategies will be useful as you keep learning about ways of giving feedback: TAG: Tell Ask Give... and "Let's Pretend"

BLOG COMMENTS 4 points 30 min. - 45 min.

Here is the randomizer: Blog Comments. As usual you are commenting on people's stories and introduction posts. Thanks to the power of random you should be meeting new people each week, and you might also cross paths with someone you have met before too.

EXTRA CREDIT

Do you have midterms coming up already? If so, you can get ahead in this class by doing some extra credit, and that will allow you to take time off in this class to focus on your midterms in other classes. See Week 2 Extra Credit for details.

You can do these extra credit options any time during the week.
