Tech Tips Spring 2015
: Google Reverse Image search

For this tip, you will learn how to use Google's Reverse Image Search to learn more about an image. Instead of putting words into the Google search engine, you will have it search for an image.

STEP ONE.  Mystery image. Pick one of the mystery images down at the bottom of the page to work on. I've picked some images that are relevant to Myth-Folklore and some images that are relevant to Indian Epics. As you can see, the images are small. Your goal is to find a larger version of the image at another webpage that you can link to, and you will also use Google to learn something about the image so that you can write a useful caption.

STEP TWO.  Search on image. To do a search on an image, go to Google Image Search and click on the camera. You have several options: you can right-mouse click on the image to get the address (URL) and paste that in, or you can drag-and-drop the image, or you can upload it from your computer if you have already saved a copy of the image to your desktop. If you use Chrome as your browser, it's even fast: just right-mouse click on the image and choose "Search Google for Image."

STEP THREE. Analyze results. The kinds of results you will get depend on the image. You will be able to access different sizes of the images using the links up at the very top; for your blog post you want a medium or a large image (you can always make an image smaller in a blog post, but not larger); make sure to click through to the actual webpage, not the search results, so you will be save a copy of the larger version of the image from an actual webpage and then upload it to your blog. Then you'll want to find information about the image so that you can write a caption; a Wikipedia article or something similar is best.

STEP FOUR. Blog. To finish up, create a blog post at your class blog and include a larger version of your chosen "mystery image" plus image information.

Make sure to include the phrase "Tech Tip: Reverse Image Search" in your blog post title and also use "Tech Tip" as the label on the post; then you can do the Declaration.

Here are some mystery images to choose from:
