New Google Sites: Images

Working with images in Google Sites is very different than in other web editors, so I wanted to add a few notes here. Google Sites is taking an approach that emphasizes responsive display: changing the sizes of things based on the size of the browser window, desktop versus mobile, etc. As a result, you get to decide some things, but other things you let Google decide — which makes sense because you yourself don't know what your readers' viewing environment will be like!

This tip assumes you have created your Google Site already; here's how to create a site. The emphasis there is on banner images. This page emphasizes the page images that display below the title/banner area:

Insert Image. You add images by using the insert - Image icon. This adds a new box to the content area of the page, and you then search for or upload an image into the box.

Image Information. Start by adding a text box at the bottom of the page where you can paste in the Image Information for each image that you add. Then, as you search for images, click on the link in the lower left-hand corner that displays the webpage for the image you have selected and inserted! You need that to credit your image.

Click on the link and it will open in a new browser tab. From that tab, copy the name of the website along with other pertinent image information and paste that into your text box, and then create a link to that page. That way, you will accumulate the image information in your text box as you add each image to the page.

Edit Images. Click on the image to make the editing options appear. You can drag the blue dots to resize the image, and there is also an image cropping tool built in.

Moving Images. To reposition an image, drag it and drop it into position. You can place it next to a text box for example:
