Myth-Folklore Reading: Weeks 10 and 11
You will be moving on this week to NATIVE AMERICAN STORIES for Week 10 and Week 11. I know some of you may have had a Native American literature or language or music or dance class, which is great; that will give you some sense of context as you explore the stories for this class. I also know that even here at the University of Oklahoma, not everybody takes a course about Native American traditions before they graduate, so I am glad that this will give you at least one opportunity to explore the Native storytelling traditions.
Schedule. Remember, if you are finding yourself scrambling to get the reading done on time, you can always try a different schedule. Just send me an email where you tell me what 6 hours you want to spend each week on this class, and I promise I can find a way to make the assignments fit your schedule. The final weeks of the semester are probably getting very hectic in your other classes, so you might need to re-adjust your schedule in this class to accommodate that end-of-semester push.
Extra Credit reading. Here is an overview of all the different options: Myth-Folklore Extra Credit Reading — and if you are interested in Native American storytelling, the Native American books section of the Freebookapalooza includes many different tribal traditions that go beyond the options in the UnTextbook. Contact me if there is a book you would like to use as extra credit reading this week, or any week!
