Technology Tips: Google's Picasa Image Sharing Site

Make sure you do the GoogleDocs Tech Tip first, before you do any other tips this semester.

Google's Picasa image sharing service allows you to publish and share your image online. There are other similar services such as Flickr and Photobucket. If you are already using an image service like Flickr or Photobucket, that is great - you can skip to the final step of this Tech Tip and simply send me a link to one of your public albums in order to complete this assignment. If you do not already use an image sharing service, this assignment will get you started at Picasa.

STEP ONE: Log on to Gmail. Log on to your Google Gmail account first. You need to be logged on to Google in order to access your Google Picasa account.

STEP TWO: Go to Picasa. From your Gmail screen, just click on the Photos link in the upper left-hand corner, or you can use this link to go directly to the Picasa Google site.

STEP THREE: Create new album. To start uploading click on the Upload button which you see next to the main menus. You will Create a New Album for this assignment. Then click Continue down at the bottom of the screen.

STEP FOUR: Upload image(s). For the purposes of this assignment, please upload at least one image into the album you have created. Select the image(s) from your computer, and then click the Start Upload button.

STEP FIVE: Get album address. Now you need to get the album address, so that you can send that to me in an email. To get the album address, just click on Link to this album in the right-hand side of the screen, and it will display the web address of the album you have created. A typical address will look something like this:

Send email. To complete this assignment, send me the address of your slide show in an email. Make sure you use this subject line for the email: TechTip Image Album.
