Technology Tips: Custom Library Homepage

There are many special resources available through the Bizzell Library website which are limited to OU students, faculty and staff. You can only access those resources by logging in to the website. Once you log in, you also have the option of creating a customized "home page" where you can list the library resources you use most often in order to access them instantly. The instructions below will show you how to create your own custom Library Homepage. This Library homepage is something I use probably every single day, so for me it is a really big time-saver — and I am guessing it can be useful to you too!

STEP ONE: Go to the Libraries.ou.edu website and log in with your OU ID and password.

STEP TWO: You will see "My Library" to the right; click on the "Personalize My Library" link at the bottom of the panel.

STEP THREE: You will see a whole list of features you can add to the panel. For the purposes of this assignment, make sure you choose My E-Reference Materials, along with any other features you would like to have as part of your Library Homepage. When you are done, click SAVE FEATURES at the bottom of the screen.

STEP FOUR: To add items to your E-Reference Materials, click on the little wheeled gear icon:

Then you can page through the available offerings, clicking any items you want to add to your Library Homepage.

Depending on your major and research needs, I am sure you can find lots of good things to add. The item I use the most is the Oxford English Dictionary and also the JSTOR database.

Finishing Up. After you have configured your Library Homepage, go ahead and log out of the Library website and then log in again to make sure your Homepage is working correctly. If everything looks good, you're done — but don't forget to do the Declaration! :-)
