Orientation Week: Creating Your Ning Account

We will be using a Ning site, OUMyth.ning.com, for blogging and also as a classroom space where everybody in the class can interact with each other. Perhaps you have already used a Ning community site before; there are thousands of Ning websites online. Some of those sites are public, while other Ning websites are private, like this one, where you need an invitation code to join.

NOTE: Returning student? Please read these notes about using your old Ning account.

PART ONE: Invitation Link. Go to our course area in Desire2Learn, and in the top center column you will see the invitation code you need to join the Ning.  Click on the link to begin creating your Ning account. You will need to enter your email address.  Then, enter the password you want to use. You will also have to answer the spam-bot question. When you have filled out the form click "Sign Up" to let me know you have entered your email into the system.

Email address: You can enter any email address you want, but make sure it is a valid email address that you check regularly. If you forget your Ning password, Ning will use this email address to send you a reminder, and this is also the email address Ning will use to send you notifications when people have left comments for you at the Ning.

PART TWO: Name and Profile Questions. In the box that says "Full Name" please enter the name you go by (so if you are "Mike" instead of "Michael," please enter "Mike" here) - and make sure to include your last name also. Then, answer the Profile Questions. When you are done, click "JOIN" at the bottom of the screen. You should see this confirmation screen:

Approval. Because the Ning is private for our class only, I will need to approve your Ning account. I will try to do that as quickly as possible. After I do the approval, you will get an email from Ning letting you know that you are ready to go! Meanwhile, if you get the confirmation screen shown here, you are ready to do the Gradebook Declaration for this assignment; you do not have to wait for me to approve your Ning account in order to complete the Declaration.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

I have submitted the information needed to create my Ning account.

OR

I am a returning student, and have successfully logged in to my old Ning account.
