Technology Tips: Cleaning up Your Ning Profile Page

Make sure you do the GoogleDocs Tech Tip first, before you do any other tips this semester.

To make room for the features you are actually using on your Ning Profile Page, it's a good idea to hide features that are not really useful to you. For this Technology Tip, you will set your Latest Activity to be invisible to all visitors at your Profile page, and you will change your Blog Listings to display titles only.

Edit Latest Activity. One of the first things you may want to do to clean up your Profile page is to stop displaying the latest activity, since it takes up a lot of space on the page. To stop displaying Latest Activity, click on the Edit button in the upper right-hand corner of the box, and then set the display to zero. Click Save. Your Latest Activity box will not be displayed any more. although you can still see the Edit button if you want to change the settings again later.

Edit Blog Display. Your blog can also take up a lot of space on the page, so you should set the blog display on the Profile page to show titles only. You can also change the number of blog post titles which are displayed. For this tip, you should set your blog listing to Titles Only. Just click on the Edit button, choose Titles Only, and click Save when you are done. You can choose to display however many blog posts you want - please display at least one.
