Ning: Creating Links in Ning Posts

The process of adding a link to a Ning blog post is a two-step process.

Step 1: Link text. First, you have to type your link text - the text that the reader will see and click on. The link address should be a useful piece of text, not a long, scary-looking HTTP address. So, TYPE THE TEXT FIRST, highlight the text, and then create the link.

GOOD: Check out the University of Oklahoma website.

BAD: Check out the http://www.ou.edu website. [the http address is not good link text!]

Step 2: Link address. Then, you should have another browser window open, where you can see the webpage address in the browser bar. You need to highlight and copy the address from the browser bar.

Now, go to your blog post and highlight the link text you have typed, and click the LINK link, which is in BLUE letters, just below the post title and above the editing box.

This will cause a pop-up window to open, where you can paste in the address. Remember: don't ever try to type a web address - instead, copy and paste it from a browser address bar. Make sure you include the http: part of the address - and be careful that you do not accidentally end up with http: twice.  When you are done, click Okay.
