WRITING | Where and When - The Five Senses - Short and Sweet - Activate Your Active Verbs
The Five Senses
As you choose the most vivid details to include in your story, remember to take advantage of all five senses - sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. You don't want to overwhelm your readers with unnecessary details, but you also don't want them to suffer from sensory deprivation. So, use your imagination to explore your story with all five senses. Sight and hearing are the senses on which we rely the most, but remember to make taste and smell and touch part of your story, too, looking for places in which these sensations fit in nicely with the story.
