Storybook Coverpage
This week, you will creating a NEW Google Site for your Storybook. (NOTE: If you have decided to do a Portfolio instead of a Storybook, you have a different Week 5 Internet assignment.)
Like a blog design, your website design is a work in progress: you can change your Storybook Coverpage contents and design as much as you want (in fact, you will be changing the coverpage each time you add a new story, adding a link to that story). So, if you are not 100% happy with the page you create this week, don't worry. You will have plenty of time to tinker with the coverpage as the semester progresses.
CREATE A NEW SITE. Using GoogleSites, you need to create a NEW SITE in order to build your Storybook. So, go back to these instructions: Creating a GoogleSite Website - and make sure you start with the NEW SITE button, creating a whole new site for your Storybook. The Homepage you create now will be the Coverpage of your Storybook.
IMPORTANT: SITE TITLE - PAGE TITLES. In Google Sites, every page displays the Site Title up along the top of the page, as well as a Page Title that is part of the actual text box that you edit for that page. You need to give your new site a title that reflects your Storybook topic (keep it short), while you can use the Page Title on the coverpage to expand on that title.
So, for example, if your Storybook is "The God Shiva: Tales of the Nataraja," then the site title would be "The God Shiva" and you could use "Tales of the Nataraja" as the page title on your coverpage. Alternatively, if you want to show your name as author, you could have a short Storybook title as the site title, e.g. "Fairy Tales, Italian-Style," and the page title on the coverpage would be "by Penelope Finn." If you decide you need to change your Site Title, that is easy to do - for specific instructions, see this page about Site Title and Page Titles. It is 100% up to you whether or not you want to list your name as the author of the website; either way is fine, and you can change your mind as you go along — your choice!
TEMPLATE THEME. You will probably want to choose a nice color scheme theme for your new GoogleSite. You might also enjoy browsing through some old Storybooks to see what other students have done with their GoogleSites: Myth-Folklore Storybooks - Indian Epics Storybooks.
Coverpage Requirements. When you are done, your Storybook Coverpage should meet the following requirements:
- the title of your Storybook should be prominently displayed
- you should have an image related to the theme of your Storybook, with image information (you might even want to do an image collage, if there are multiple images you'd like to use)
Including your name as part of the title page is optional; I hope you will want to include your name so that if someone ever wanted to cite your Storybook, they would be able to do so. If, however, you prefer not to include your name, that is fine with me, too!
When you are done, send the address for your Storybook Coverpage to me in an email with the subject line: Storybook Coverpage. Then, do the Gradebook Declaration. Here is the text of the Gradebook Declaration you will complete (you will be affirming the "Storybook Option" part):
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
Storybook Option: I have published a Storybook Coverpage with my Storybook title, plus an image and image information, and I have sent the address of my Coverpage to the instructor in an email.
OR
Portfolio Option: I have published a blog post with "Week 5" and "Styles" in the title, per the instructions provided in the assignment.
