Storybook: New Story

FIRST OF ALL: Make sure that all the revisions have been completed to your Storybook pages. If you have any further revisions pending from last week's revision assignment, take care of that FIRST, and then you can add the new story to your Storybook. If you have not done so already, check the Storybook email you received from me last time and make sure you have completed those revisions.

Here are some items to check as you add a new story to your Storybook:

Bibliography and Image Information. You need to include Bibliography acknowledging the online source(s) you used for your story (and that includes Bibliography if you are using the class books in the Indian Epics class), along with Image Information for the image(s).

Author's Note. If you are not sure how to write the Author's Note, please read these Author's Note Guidelines.

Spellcheck and Proofread. Make sure you have spellchecked your story and that you have proofread it by reading it out loud. If you do not spellcheck and you do not proofread, you may receive a zero for the assignment. It will take you less than five minutes to read your story out loud, so make sure you do that! (Here is some information about spellchecking.)

Publish Story. To complete the assignment, you must publish the Story Page online.

Coverpage Link: If you are using GoogleSites, the new link to your new story will be added to your Coverpage automatically, but you may need to adjust your Navigation Panel to make sure the links are all visible and in the right order. If you have suppressed the Navigation Panel in order to do your own design, then make sure there is a clear link to the new story from your Coverpage. There must be either a link to the new story in the Navigation Panel and/or a link to the new story that you have added somewhere to the Coverpage. You can decide what option is best for you!

Word Count. Make sure that you have checked your published story for the word count (here are some word count tools). The actual story should be at least 500 words and not more than 1000 words. The author's note should be at least 200 words and not more than 300 words.

When you have published your new Story Page, notify the instructor by email. In the email, you MUST cut-and-paste the questions below, and confirm that the answer to all the questions is "yes" before you turn in the assignment. You do not have to put a "yes" next to each one; it's fine if you say "answer to all is yes," or something like that. Please give the email a subject line based on the class you are enrolled in ("MythFolklore Storybook Story"  - "Indian Epics Storybook Story").

The answer to each question must be YES in order to turn in the assignment:

Click to go to the list of Storybooks at the course website Myth-Folklore or Indian Epics:

1. Is the link to your Coverpage at the course list working?

2. Does Coverpage navigation contain a link to the new story?

3. Is this story written in your own words?
4. Did you spellcheck your story before publishing it?
5. Did you proofread your story by reading it out loud to yourself?

6. Does your new story include complete Bibliography for your source(s)?
7. Does your new story include at least one image with complete Image Information?

8. Is your story 500-1000 words long?
9. Is your Author's note 200-300 words long?

10. Have you also completed any revisions that might have been due for your Storybook assignment from last week?

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT STORYBOOK DEADLINES

You are strongly encouraged to complete your assignment on Monday, by the noon deadline. The only way you can get full credit for the assignment (10 points) is if you turn it it on Monday, before the Monday noon deadline (that's CST, Norman time).

Late assignments. You can receive partial credit for the Storybook assignment if you turn it in late, based on the following schedule:

  • assignments turned in on Monday after noon can receive up to 8 points credit
  • assignments turned in on Tuesday can receive up to 7 points credit
  • assignments turned in on Wednesday can receive up to 6 points credit
  • assignments turned in on Thursday before noon can receive up to 5 points credit
