Tech Tips: OU Library Website's My Library

The OU Library system pays for access to a huge variety of online journals, databases, and other electronic resources. If there are resources you use often (I rely heavily on JStor, for example, and I read the Chronicle of Higher Education online), you can bookmark those resources for instant access using the "My Library" feature at the OU Library website. The links in your "My Library" will show up on the Library website homepage when you log in:

Here's how to configure your "My Library" bookmarks. You can save as many bookmarks as you want, and you can use the star to select up to 5 that will display in that box on the homepage; there's also a video from the Library about the process:

1. Log in. Go to Libraries.ou.edu and log in with your OU ID. The log-in button is in the upper right corner.

2. My Library. Underneath the log-in/log-out button you should now see a link to "My Library." Click that link. You will see the references you have bookmarked.

3. Add Items. To add items, you can search using the title, keyword, and other search options below your list. When you find an item you want to add, just click the little "My Library" button. For example, I just remembered that OU bought the entire Loeb Classical Library so that we can access it online, so I searched for that and added it to "My Library" with the plus button:

4. Star Items. You can select up to 5 items by clicking the star next to them, and those items will show up on the homepage:

That's all there is to it! Now you have configured your Library homepage for quick access to your most used resources. Plus, there are probably more resources you don't even know about, so go talk to the librarians in Bizzell and tap into their expertise! There are designated librarians for all the different disciplines at OU, and they will be glad to sit down with you and advise you about online resources that could be useful for your research.

Write your post. To finish up this tip, write up a post about the resource(s) you added to My Library and why. Use this title for the post: My Library Tech Tip, and use "Tech Tip" for the post label. Do you have any other good research strategies or tips for Bizzell or any of the other OU libraries?

When you are done with the blog post, you're done with this Tip and ready to do the Declaration.
