Tech Tip: Getting Started with OUCreate

OUCreate is a program sponsored by the Office of Digital Learning at OU so that OU students, staff, and faculty can get full-featured web hosting, including the option to have a domain name of your own (for example, I'm LauraGibbs.net). If you get a subdomain at oucreate.com (e.g. lauragibbs.oucreate.com), OUCreate is completely free; if you get your own domain name, it costs $12, which is a great deal for web hosting.

The OUCreate program has been around for 3 years now; if it had existed when I started teaching online, I probably would have built my classes to be based on OUCreate services. As it is, I developed this class long before we had OUCreate, and when OU students did not have any really good web hosting options. I think it's great that we have OUCreate now, and it's essential if you want to use Twine for storytelling in this class. You can also use OUCreate to host a WordPress blog or website, along with a range of other cool tools.

To activate your free account or to sign up for your own domain, go to Create.ou.edu, and follow the instructions there. You might also take a look at these FAQs.

When you are done, you can write up your thoughts in a blog post.

Your thoughts. Write up a blog post with your thoughts about using OUCreate. Had you heard about OUCreate before? Did you get a subdomain on oucreate.com, or did you get your own domain name, and why? Do you have any specific plan(s) for how you want to use your OUCreate space? Do you have any questions about what you want to do next with your OUCreate space?

To finish up, make sure to include the phrase "Tech Tip: OUCreate" in your blog post title and use "Tech Tip" as the label on the post; then you can do the Declaration.
