Make sure you do the GoogleDocs Tech Tip first, before you do any other tips this semester.
Although GoogleDocs has great spellchecking and word count options, but you probably will also want a quick and easy word count tool where you can quickly check the word count for any chunk of text. Whenever you do a Gradebook Declaration that specifies a word count requirement, you REALLY need to check the count! So, if you have a chunk of text and you need to do a word count, here are two webpages you can go to:
- WordCountTool.com. Just paste the text into the box and then hit the "Submit" button. You will see the number of words displayed below the box.
- Online Course Lady. Yes, I also put a javascript word counter here at the wiki which you can use. Paste the text into the box, and click "Calculate."
- Ning Experiment. As a new experiment - please let me know what you think! - I've included the same javascript word counter in the right-hand column of the Ning. I hope you will find it useful having it available right there!
To complete this Technology Tip, look at this poem The Parade by Billy Collins. Use any word count tool that you want and send me an email telling me how many words are in the poem. I'm also curious what you think of the poem!
When you have sent in the email, you can enter this tip on your GoogleDocs Checklist and then do the Gradebook Declaration for Extra Credit. Here is the text of the Gradebook Declaration you will complete:

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
I have completed the Technology Tip assignment and sent the instructor an email as required.
