GoogleSites: Site Title and Page Title

You can edit your Site Title or any of your Page Titles at any time.

SITE TITLE. The Site Title appears on every one of your webpages IN THE TOP PANEL (although you can also disable this option if you want; see below). You can put your name there (John Smith) or a general kind of project title (John Smith's Storybook) or a specific project title (Tales of Hercules). It's a good idea to keep this short - very short, in fact, and then add more information with the page title over your coverpage.

  • To change or hide your Site Title, go to More Actions (upper right-hand button), Manage Site, General, and then edit the Site Name - or, if you want, you can disable the display of the Site Title on every page. Click Save Changes to save your changes.
  • To center your Site Title, go to More Actions (upper right-hand button), Manage Site, Site Appearance: Site Layout, then click "change" where it says Header Alignment, then for Header Alignment: Horizontal, choose "Center." Click Save Changes to save your changes.
  • To suppress the Search box, go to More Actions (upper right-hand button), Manage Site, Site Appearance: Site Layout, click on the Configure Search button, and then uncheck the Enable Search box. Click Save Changes to save your changes.
  • To suppress the Sitemap link, just click the "Edit Sidebar" link that you see at the bottom of the navigation panel, and then click "edit" in the Navigation Panel box, and you can then uncheck the box that says "Include Link to Sitemap" and then click Save Changes at the bottom of the screen.

PAGE TITLES. Each time you create a page, you must have a Page Title. Your Coverpage will need a title, and so will your Introduction and each Story page. These are the titles that will appear in the navigation panel if you let GoogleSites create a navigation panel for you automatically so it is a good idea to keep these short, too.

  • To change your Page title, just click on the Edit button for that page and make any changes you want.
  • Coverpage title. By default your coverpage title probably says "HOME" - but there is really no reason to have a page named "HOME" in your Storybook. You can use the Coverpage title as a "subtitle" for your overall title, or you can put your name as the author of the Storybook.  You can also choose to leave the page title space blank - but if you do that, make sure you remove it from the Navigation Panel; otherwise, it will show up in the navigation as "untitled."
  • Introduction and Story Titles. Your Introduction page will need a title and so will each of your Story pages. Keep your Story page titles short so that they will be easy to read in the Navigation Panel. You can arrange the Navigation Panel to put the stories in order, with the Introduction first, and then the individual Story pages in order. Please make sure you give each story some title of its own - not just Story 1, Story 2, etc.
