Site Titles and Page Titles

This page has information to help you in choosing your Google Site site title and also the page titles, including the title on the homepage:

  • Site Title. The Site Title appears at the top of the page on every page of the site (unless you choose to suppress the site title option because you want to design a custom banner).
  • Page Title. The Page Title appears in the main text box of each page (unless you choose to suppress the page title on a given page).

Homepage Page Title. When you add a new story to your Storybook, the page title will be the title of that story. On the homepage of your site, you can use the page title to create a subtitle, or you might use it to put your name as the author (including your name on the Storybook site is completely optional; it is find with me if you prefer to publish without your name). Here are some examples to give you a sense of the possibilities, and you can see some screenshots below of different layout options:

Site Title  Homepage Title
Ramayana Women The Stories of Sita, Mandodari, and Shabari
Ramayana Women  a project by Meredith Gordon-Baxter
Ramayana Women   [you can suppress the page title on the homepage]

Here is how you adjust the titles:

SITE TITLE

  • To change or hide your Site Title, go to More Actions (upper right-hand button), Manage Site, General, and then edit the Site Name - or, if you want, you can disable the display of the Site Title on every page. Click Save Changes to save your changes.
  • To center your Site Title, go to More Actions (upper right-hand button), Edit Site Layout, then click on your site title. This will pop up an editing box that will allow you to select "center" for the horizontal alignment.
  • To suppress the Search box, go to More Actions (upper right-hand button), then choose Manage Site; then, on the General page options, you can scroll down to "Enable and configure search options" and then choose "Configure Search" and uncheck the "Enable Search" option.
  • To suppress the Sitemap link, go to More Actions (upper right-hand button), Edit Site Layout, and then click where you see Sitemap; that will open the Configure navigation where you can uncheck the Sitemap option.

PAGE TITLES.

  • To change your Page title, just click on the Edit button for that page and make any changes you want.
  • To suppress the Page title display, go to More Actions, choose Page Settings, and unclick the Page Title option.

Screenshots:

In this Storybook, you see the search box removed, the site title is centered and provides the title of the Storybook ("The Temptation of Zeus"), and the page title on the homepage gives a subtitle ("Zeus' Lovers Speak Out").

In this Storybook, you see the search box removed, the site title is centered and provides the title of the Storybook ("The Fairy Tale World"), with no page title on the homepage.

In this Storybook, the site title provides the title of the Storybook ("The Last of the Seapeople"), and the page title on the homepage gives a subtitle ("The Weight of the World"). The author then puts her name underneath the page title.

In this Storybook, the site title provides the title of the Storybook ("Legends of Fire"), and the page title on the homepage gives the author's name ("Written by Austin Lockard").

In this Storybook, the site title provides the author's name ("DC's Storybook"), and the page title on the homepage gives the Storybook title ("Merlin's Mystery Men"). Note that this Storybook is using the horizontal navigation bar in-between the site title and page title.
