Technology Tips: Firefox Dictionary Spellchecker
Make sure you do the GoogleDocs Tech Tip first, before you do any other tips this semester.
If you are using Firefox, it has a spellcheck feature that will put a squiggly red underline beneath a word that is not correctly spelled.
In order to complete this assignment, you will need to be using the Firefox browser. Since Firefox is the only cross-platform (WIndows AND Mac) browser that is approved for use with Desire2Learn, it is the only browser I have documented here for the Tech Tip. If you are using another kind of browser, you can probably find a similar spellcheck feature!
STEP ONE: Make sure spellcheck is turned on. To see if the Firefox spellcheck feature is turned on, go to a webpage that has some kind of box you can type in, such as your web-based email or WordCountTool.com. Something that is not typed correctly should appear with a red squiggly underline:

You may need to turn on this feature in Firefox if you are not seeing the squiggly line. To turn on the spellcheck feature, just go to the Firefox menu, choose Preferences, click on Advanced, and on the General tab in the Advanced Preferences, check the box that says "Check spelling as I type."

STEP TWO: Take a screenshot. Take a screenshot that shows a red squiggly line from your typing in any kind of form inside your Firefox browser - it can be WordCountTool.com or it can be your web-based email or a Ning post, anything at all. Here's a sample screenshot using Gmail (and yes, Gmail is one of those new-fangled words that is not in the dictionary, so it gets a red squiggly, too!). Send the screenshot to me as an email attachment, with "Firefox Spellcheck" as the subject line of the email.
When you have sent in the email, you can enter this tip on your GoogleDocs Checklist and then do the Gradebook Declaration for Extra Credit. Here is the text of the Gradebook Declaration you will complete:
