Technology Tips
: FREE Audiobooks at LibriVox

LibriVox is an all-volunteer service that provides audiobook recordings for free. These are recordings of books that are in the public domain (which usually means they were published before 1923), and the LibriVox catalog contains hundreds of these books which you can listen to for free.

STEP ONE: Choose a LibriVox book to read. You can browse the catalog, search, or look at recent additions. Each book has its own detailed page with links that let you listen to the audio directly from that page, by subscribing through iTunes, or by downloading the entire set of mp3 files to your computer. For the purposes of this Tech Tip, make sure you are able to download an audiobook, or part of an audiobook, and listen to it on your computer.

For example, here is what you will find for Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's Frankenstein:

STEP TWO: Post reply in Ning Tech Tip Discussion Board. There is a Ning discussion board where you can post Tech Tip items by "replying" to the discussion board: Tech Tips Discussion Board: LibriVox Audiobooks. For this Tech Tip, you need to post a reply which contains the name of the book you downloaded, along with a link to that book's page at LibriVox. I'm also curious if you read audiobooks and, if so, when/where you like to do your reading, where you get your audiobooks, etc. Then, after you are done, you might enjoy taking a look at the LibriVox books and comments that people might have shared there, and you can make replies to their replies if you want of course.

When you are done, you can enter this tip on your GoogleDocs Checklist and then do the Gradebook Declaration for Extra Credit. Here is the text of the Gradebook Declaration you will complete:

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

I have completed the Technology Tip assignment following the instructions provided.
