Technology Tips
: Crocodocs for Sharing and Annotating Docs Online

Crocodoc is a PDF document service that allows you to upload and read PDF documents online, and you can share those documents with others if you want. You can add comments and highlights to your documents using Crocodoc as well. It's also easy to embed a Crocodoc inside a webpage or blog post.

So, for example, here is a book I wrote last summer which I have put online as a Crocodoc: Mille Fabulae et Una: 1001 Aesop's Fables in Latin. Crocodoc is an HTML5 application, which means it offers very fast reading, browsing, and searching, even for very large PDF files and other documents.

To upload a PDF document and share it, just go to the personal Crocodocs website and create a free accountAfter you create an account, you can then click on Add Document to add new documents to your Crocodoc files.

Crocodoc is useful for sharing and also for making up and annotating a document. After you have marked up a document, you can use the Download button to download the marked up copy (you also have the option to download a clean copy. To turn on the commenting and mark-up features, click the annotation link on or off:

To complete this Tech Tip, you need to upload some kind of PDF or other document, and then click the blue Share button. That will give you a webpage address that you can use to share the document with others publicly.

To finish up, post a reply in the Ning Tech Tip Discussion Board. There is a Ning discussion board where you can post Tech Tip items by "replying" to the discussion board: Tech Tips Discussion Board: Crocodoc. For this Tech Tip, you need to post a reply which contains a link to the Crocodoc you uploaded and shared. Then, after you are done, you might enjoy taking a look at the documents that people might have shared there, and you can make replies to their replies if you want of course.

When you are done, you can enter this tip on your GoogleDocs Checklist and then do the Gradebook Declaration for Extra Credit. Here is the text of the Gradebook Declaration you will complete:

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

I have completed the Technology Tip assignment following the instructions provided.
