Tech Tips
: Touch Typing Games

Being able to type quickly and accurately is an incredibly valuable skill. I taught myself how to touch-type on my mother's old manual Royal typewriter when I was in fourth grade back in the early 70s (ancient history: I used typewriters, manual and electric, until the miracle of computer word processing arrived during my sophomore year of college). I really wanted to learn how to play the piano, but we didn't have a piano, so I decided to become an expert typist instead. Being able to type well, and the fact that I just like to type, has been a big help to me for both work and school. Some of you are probably already excellent typists, but some of you might want to improve your typing skills, and typing games are a great way to do that. For this Tech Tip, I would like you to try out this typing game - Ninja Cat v. Zombie Dinosaurs - and see what you think!

STEP ONE: Play the game. You can find the game here - Ninja Cat - and you have some options you can set before you begin. Play the game for a while and see what you think. Even though I am a good touch typist, I had fun playing the game, and it did help me to really focus and keep on typing.

STEP TWO: Explore the other games. This same website has some other Typing Games. If you are curious, give one or two of them a try and see what you think. (Ninja Cat was my favorite of the several games I tried out.)

To finish up, create a blog post with the title Typing Game Tech Tip, and use "Tech Tip" for the label. Include the name of the game you liked best and why, and make sure you include a link to that specific game. Is there some other typing game at a completely different website that you use or have used which you would recommend? If you want, you could also share some comments about your typing - when/where you learned to type, how you would rate your typing skills, whether or not you would like to improve your typing skills, etc.

Finishing Up. After you've shared your thoughts about the typing game in a blog post, you're all done with the Tip and ready to fill out the Declaration.
