Technology Tips
: Finding a Larger Image

For this Tech Tip assignment, you will learn how to use Google Reverse Image Search to find a larger size of an image you want to use in a blog post or webpage. Using a large image file is great, because you can reduce a larger image size to whatever size you want (how to resize images). If you have only a small size of the image, you cannot make it larger. Having an image that is 500 or 600 pixels wide, or even larger, is probably what you want for your Ning blog post or Google Site webpage.

Step One: Choose your "small image." Pick ONE of these images to work on; just drag-and-drop the image you want to work on to your desktop, or else save the image to your computer. These are small versions of images you can find in a larger size online.

Omsk Cathedral

Nefertiti

Statue of LIberty Replica
in Paris, France

Bal du moulin
de la Galette

The Great Wave

Join or Die

Louis Armstrong

Mahatma Gandhi

Egyptian Funerary Stele

Step Two: Go to Image Search. You can find a link to Google Image Search from the main Google.com Search page (just look in the upper left-hand corner), or you can go directly to Google Image Search at Images.Google.Com. Now drag-and-drop the image file you chose into the search box, or you can click on the little camera icon and then upload the image:

Step Three: View results. You should see search results that will let you find different sizes of that same image file. For this assignment, you are looking for a large-sized image, so click on the Large link in the image search results. Then, save a version of the image that is at least 500 pixels wide to your desktop. You might also look at some of other information returned in the image search results to see what you can learn.

Step Four: Post reply in Ning Tech Tip Discussion Board. There is a Ning discussion board where you can post Tech Tip items by "replying" to the discussion board: Tech Tips Discussion Board: Large Image Search. For this Tech Tip, you need to post a reply which contains the image in a 500-pixel-sized version. You can copy the image information provided here in the assignment. Then, please say something about the image - why you chose the image, what you learned about it as you looked for a larger version, any sort of comments you'd like to make. If you enjoyed this tip, you might try this tip next: Identifying a "Mystery Image" with Google's Image Search.

When you are done, you can enter this tip on your GoogleDocs Checklist and then do the Gradebook Declaration for Extra Credit. Here is the text of the Gradebook Declaration you will complete:
