Technology Tips
: Pinterest Portfolio for Class

To do this Tech Tip, you need to have a Pinterest account already and/or to have done the Pinterest Board Tech Tip. And please bear with me here: this is something really new, and I hope you can let me know what you think about it! I was thinking that starting next semester it might be fun to let people make a "Pinterest Portfolio" for the class, and to let that Pinterest Portfolio be a replacement for one of the blog posts each week. So, instead of a Storytelling and Essay, you could do a Storytelling and Essay OR Pinterest Portfolio pins (probably four or five pins). Here are some of the things I was thinking you could pin to your class portfolio:

  • you could pin a page (or multiple pages) of your practice Google Site website
  • you could pin a page (or multiple pages) of your Storybook
  • you could pin a page (or multiple pages) of other people's Storybooks that you really liked
  • you could pin the images you create for the different Tech Tips that have images
  • you could pin images that you find while researching illustrations to use in your Storybook
  • you could pin webpages that you are using as sources (or possible sources) for your Storybook
  • you could pin anything from the class Announcements that catches your attention

Anyway, you get the idea! Basically anything - a webpage or a blog post - that has a good image is a great option for a Pinterest pin.

I've decided to keep a Myth-Folklore Portfolio and an Indian Epics Portfolio as part of this semester's experiment. Admittedly, mine will look different from yours (since I am not a student)... but just speaking for myself, WOW: I think this will be such a fun way to record day by day why I enjoy teaching these classes so much. A big part of my enjoyment is the use of IMAGES in people's blog posts and Storybooks, which is exactly what Pinterest is so good at recording.

So, for this assignment, please create a Myth-Folklore portfolio board OR an Indian Epics portfolio board at Pinterest, and then add at least three pins to that board.

After you have created a board and added at least three pins, please "reply" to the discussion board: Tech Tips Discussion Board: Pinterest. For this Tech Tip, please create a reply with a LINK to your Pinterest portfolio. Also, please comment on what you think about this idea. I will be SO GRATEFUL for your feedback about this idea! Next year, I will have to give up using Ning (long story) and so I am contemplating a lot of changes to the class, including the use of Pinterest and also Twitter. Any ideas you have about how that strikes you, leads I could follow, any suggestions at all would be very much appreciated!

When you are done, you can enter this tip on your GoogleDocs Checklist and then do the Gradebook Declaration for Extra Credit. Here is the text of the Gradebook Declaration you will complete:

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

I have completed the Technology Tip assignment following the instructions provided.
