Embed Pinterest in a Blog Post

In this tip, you will learn how to create a Pinterest Board widget to use in a blog post, and this widget can go wherever javascript is accepted. That's why it works great in a Blogger blog post: one of the things I like best about Blogger compared to other blogging platforms is that it is very javascript-friendly. Here is a sample of an embedded Pinterest Board in a blog post, and I've embedded a Board at the bottom of this page so you can see what it looks like.

The great thing about a widget is that it updates automatically: when you add new pins to the board, they automatically show up wherever your widget is displayed. By using a widget like this, the Pinterest Board adds dynamic new content to an otherwise static webpage.

To complete this tip, you need to create a blog post and embed a Pinterest Board widget in a new post or in an existing post if you prefer.

STEP ONE: Build a widget. To create a Board widget for Pinterest, go to the Widget Builder pageYou can choose the Board Widget from the list of available widgets down the left-hand side of the page. You then need to paste in the address of the Pinterest Board you want to turn into a widget.

Now you can choose the size you want. For this tip, you will find that the square option is best. It will show you a preview after you choose the size option. You can also choose to "roll your own," adjusting the image widths, as well as the board height and width. Choose Build It! to update the code with your selections.

STEP TWO: Create a new post or edit an existing post. Next, open your Blogger blog in a new window, and create a new post or else open an existing blog post where you want to add the Board widget. Then, click inside the body of the post and choose the HTML mode (the HTML button is just to the right of the Compose button above the formatting menu).

STEP THREE: Paste widget code into post. Now, go back to the Pinterest widget window, and copy and paste the code from the grey window into your Blogger post. A trick I use is to type something like "STUFFGOESHERE" in the place where I want to embed the code: I do that in Compose view so I can see what I am doing, and then, when I switch to HTML view, I can use Control-F in the browser to find "STUFFGOESHERE" and then delete that, replacing it with the HTML code I want to paste it.

STEP FOUR: Publish! To publish your post, click Publish. You should see your board in the post. Does it show the contents of your Board? You're good to go!

To finish up, make sure you included the phrase "Tech Tip: Pinterest Embedded" in your blog post title with "Tech Tip" as the blog post label too. After you publish your post and see the Pinterest Board displayed in the post, you are ready to do the Declaration.

And here's an example of a Board embedded in this page. There are my Latin LOLCats; the widget displays the most recent pins. You can see the whole board here: LatinLOLCats at Pinterest.
