Indian Epics Weekly Reading Assignments

You will be reading appx. 100 pages per week; here is the Weekly Reading Schedule. While that is not a heavy reading load for a 4000-level Humanities class, it might be a heavy reading load if you are not used to taking a reading-intensive class, so make sure you budget enough time for the reading each week.

In addition, there are Reading Guides both to help you with the reading and also to smooth over the gap if you miss a reading assignment. To learn how to make the best use of the Reading Guides, please read this Tips on Using the Guides.

Here is the weekly schedule for Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday:

MONDAY Reading A + TUESDAY Reading B. Each week's reading is divided into two parts: Reading A and Reading B. As you complete each part, you need to create a Reading Diary Blog Post where you record some notes. That means you should have two Reading Diary blog posts in your blog each week: Reading Diary A and Reading Diary B. You can record your notes in whatever way works best for you; I would recommend focusing on characters, writing up a paragraph about the three or four characters who most stood out to you. For more information, see this page: Reading Diary Blog Post Assignment.

The reading is REQUIRED each weekThe Reading Guides are there to help you as you read the books, but they are not a substitute for the reading. I hope you will be able to do all the reading each week, but, if you are running short on time, make sure you do at least half of the reading — Reading A OR Reading B — so that you can do the Storytelling assignment. The Reading Diary posts in your blog and the Storytelling post need to be based on the reading you did for the week.

WEDNESDAY Storytelling. Then, after you complete the reading for the week, you will write a Storytelling post with your own version of one of the episodes from the week's reading. For more details, see this page: Storytelling Blog Post Assignment.

THURSDAY Reading Review. The Reading Review Assignment is a chance for you to catch up on the week's reading and get ready for next week. You do not write a blog post for this assignment; instead, you complete a Gradebook Declaration where you confirm that you have reviewed both Reading Guides for the week. Here is how that works: Reading Review Assignment.
