Tech Tip: Blogger Profile and Name Display

It's up to you how much you want to feature your name/identity at your Blogger blog. I hope that you will be proud of your work for the class so that it is a positive part of your online presence as an OU student. At the same time, it's totally up to you! If you want to remove the Profile information from the blog sidebar and also remove your name from the blog postings, that's fine with me, or you could choose an in-between route, displaying just your first name or your initials, etc. You can also choose to use a pseudonym (made-up name). The information below will help you configure those options based on your preferences.

Edit Profile display name and other settings. You can edit your display name and other profile details. Just go to your Dashboard, Settings, scroll down to User, and then click edit profile; I think you can also just click this link. You can add/remove a profile photo. I always use some kind of picture of a fox (that's in honor of Aesop's fables, where the trickster fox is the main character).

Make sure to click Save Profile (down at bottom) when done.

Add/remove the author attribution from your posts. By default, the author name appears with the blog post. If you want to remove the "author" element in your blog posts, that's easy to do. Just go to the Blogger Dashboard, and choose Layout from the left-hand navigation column. Then, find the main posts box and click the pencil to edit:

Then, uncheck the box with the author attribution:

Make sure to Save your changes. (You can also configure other options there in how your posts are displayed.)

Remove the profile widget from the sidebar. By default, Blogger includes the profile in your blog sidebar, but it's easy to remove. Go to Layout again, and this time click on "Edit" in the Profile widget.

Then just use the Remove button.

(And see above also the option that lets you configure your Profile with a different display name, etc.)

Finishing Up: If you have configured your profile the way that you want, you're done! Write up a blog post about the choices that you made, and about your online identity in general. Is your online identity something that you have thought about a lot? Is it something you will be thinking about more as you get ready to graduate and look for a job? What do you think will be the key ingredients for your online identity in the years to come...?

Make sure to include the phrase "Tech Tip: Blog Profile" in your blog post title and also use "Tech Tip" as the label on the post; then you can do the Declaration.
