Week 2 and Week 3: Practice Building a Website

Returning students: Please read these notes about what to do for this assignment.

For Week 2 and for Week 3, part of the weekly Project assignment will include building a practice website. I'd like for you to build a "My OU" site that will eventually have four pages:

You can use whatever website building software you prefer and in whatever webspace you want. If you have not built a website before, I would recommend you use Google Sites. It is really simple to use, and I can provide all the instructions you need for that and hopefully answer any questions you have.

Week 2: Homepage and Major Page

For Week 2, you need to create your site (homepage), and then you need to add one more page. For the homepage, pick any image you want that conveys your idea of the University of Oklahoma. You can include your name on the homepage or not; it's fine with me if you want to make your website anonymous, and it's also fine if you want to put your name there. For the second page, choose an image that is connected in some way with your major (or majors!), and include a couple of sentences about why you chose this major and what kind of future you hope it might lead to. Here are the instructions for using Google Sites to create this simple website:

Some things to watch out for:

If you have any questions as you are working on your pages, just let me know! When you are done, you will send me the address of your website, along with the address of your Storybook topics blog post. More about that here: Week 2 Project assignment

If you are having fun with this, you can go ahead and do the Week 3 part of the assignment now too, adding the two additional pages to your site.

Week 3: Best Class and Favorite Place

For this week's Practice website assignment, use the instructions above to add two more pages: one about the best class you have taken at OU and one about your favorite place on campus. Make sure each page includes at least one image (with Image Information) and at least one link.

Then, experiment with some of these other Google Site features:

If you have any questions as you are working on your pages, just let me know! When you are done, you will again send me the address of your website, along with the address of your Storybook styles blog post. More about that here: Week 3 Project assignment
