Embed YouTube Videos in Known

You may have done the tip for embedding a YouTube video in your Blogger blog. That's a streamlined process since Google owns both Blogger and YouTube, so you didn't have to copy-and-paste the embedding code. With Known, you'll need to copy the YouTube embedding code (which means you get to configure the size of the video and other features!), and then it's just a matter of copying and pasting. So, for this tip, you'll find a video you want to embed and create a Known post with that video!

STEP ONE: Find a video. Start by finding a video at YouTube that you want to use. You need to go the YouTube page for that video; for this tip, I'll use one of the music videos by Maati Baani that I really like. Here is the page: Funky Pawa.

STEP TWO: Log in at Known. In a new browser tab, log in OnlineMythIndia Known, and then click to create a new blog post (that is the center icon of the five icons).

STEP THREE: Compose blog post. Type a title for your post and add a few words explaining why you chose this video. Provide a link to the YouTube page just in case people are not able to play the video. You also need to type the hashtag for the class you are in: #OU3043 for Myth-Folklore or #OU4993 for Indian Epics. Hit return a couple of times to create a blank space in which to position your video.

STEP FOUR: Get embedding code. Now, go to the YouTube page, click on Share, then Embed, and then click the Show More option. That will allow you to see the width you want for the video; 500 pixels is a good width for a Known post. Then, copy the code that appears in the box above the preview video.

STEP FIVE: Paste code in Known post. Now, go back to your Known post, and click on the <> icon to switch to the HTML code view. Paste in the embedding code from YouTube at the end of your post. Click Publish when you are done.

You should see the video now in your post! Click on the time/date stamp to get to the individual post page. Here's my post with the Maati Baani video: Funky Pawa.

STEP SIX: Finishing up. To complete this Tech Tip, go to your blog and create a post with a link to your Known post. You want to embed the video in your Blogger blog post just to compare the procedures. Make sure you include the phrase "Tech Tip: Known Video" in the title of your Blogger post, and use "Tech Tip" as the label for the post. When you're done, don't forget to do the Declaration!
