Spring 2019: Storybooks and Portfolios

Here's where we are so far in the process:

Week 2: BRAINSTORM TOPICS. Everyone has completed this assignment.

Week 3: TOPIC RESEARCH. Everyone has completed this assignment.

Week 4: THE BIG DECISION. This week you will decide whether you want to go with a Storybook or a Portfolio! Here are some questions to help you decide: Storybook OR Portfolio. Then, based on your choice, you will start the Storybook process (green column below) or the Portfolio process (yellow column below). If you are having any doubts about which way to go, let me know, and I'll be glad to answer any questions you have — just let me know!

STORYBOOK: PORTFOLIO:

Create Site / Make a Plan. You will create a site and do some additional planning and research. Here are the instructions step by step.

(This assignment is usually for Week 4, although if you are off-schedule that might be in a later week.)

Add Introduction Page. Here are the instructions the Introduction.

(This assignment is usually for Week 5.)

Revisions. You will then do Introduction Revisions.

(This assignment is usually for Week 6.)

Story. After completing the Introduction, you will add stories to the Storybook, one by one. Here are the instructions for adding a New Story

(The weeks when people are adding stories are usually in Weeks 7, 10, 12, and 14, although it varies; some Storybooks have 3 stories, and some have 4.)

Story Revisions. Each time you add a new story, you will work on revisions for the next assignment: Story Revisions.

(The revision weeks are usually Weeks 9, 11, 13, and 15, but again, that varies based on each person's schedule and Storybook plan.)

Final Revisions. This is an optional assignment you can use at the end of the semester to do Final Revisions to Storybook.

Create a Site / Publish a Story. You will create a site and publish your first Portfolio story. Here are the instructions step by step.

(This assignment is usually for Week 4, although if you are off-schedule that might be in a later week.)

Revisions. Each time you add a new story, you will work on revisions for the next assignment: Portfolio Revisions.

(This assignment is usually for Week 5, although that can vary.)

More Revisions. With the Portfolio, there is time for a second week of revisions on each story before you move on to the next new story: Revisions.

(Most people finish revisions to their first story in Week 6, although it depends on each person's schedule.)

New Story. After you finish revising a story, you are ready to add a new story to the Portfolio: New Story, followed by a two-week revision cycle like before: Revisions.

(The weeks for adding new stories to a Portfolio are usually Weeks 7, 10, and 13, although it varies from person to person, and some Portfolios have just 3 stories; there is no specific requirement about the total number of stories.)

Final Revisions. This is an optional assignment you can use at the end of the semester to do Final Revisions to your Portfolio.
