Tech Tips: Creative Commons Image Search

 

If you use Google Image Search, You've learned (I hope) how to use the tools option to restrict your search to images that are licensed for non-commercial reuse. Another great way to search for image resources is with the Creative Commons Image Search.

 

Creative Commons refers to a set of licenses that content creators can use in order to specify what kind of reuse they do, or do not, allow. You can learn more about Creative Commons licenses here

 

For this tip, you will use the Creative Commons Image Search to find and share an image in a blog post.

 

STEP ONE: Search for an image.

 

Go to the Creative Commons Image Search and enter a search term; for your work in school you can choose the 

 

 

Notice that underneath the image, it gives you very handy image information you can copy and use right there; for this tiger image, it gives you the name of the artist/creator with a good caption, so you can just copy and paste that line into the blog post or webpage where you are using the image:

 

 

STEP TWO: Write a blog post.

 

Write up a blog post with your image, along with image information. Have you used Creative Commons search before? Are you familiar with Creative Commons licensing? Is this something you would like to learn more about? Here's the blog post I wrote with that tiger. :-)

 

Finishing Up: After you publish your blog post, you are good to go! Use the phrase "Tech Tip: CC Image Search" as your blog post title and "Tech Tip" as the label; then you can do the Declaration.
