Word Counter, Spellchecker, and Plain Text Box

On this page I've assembled some tools and links to tools that you might find useful for your writing in this class:

This Word Counter is the same word counter as the one in the right-hand sidebar of the Ning.

For a Spellchecker, you have different options:

  • The best option is to activate the spellcheck feature in your browser; most browsers have a spellcheck feature so that suspicious spellings are underlined in red or something similar. Check your browser preferences to see what options are available to you in your browser. (In Chrome, for example, go to Chrome - Preferences - Advanced - Privacy to enable Google spellchecking.)
  • You can use GoogleDocs, which has a built-in spellchecker feature, along with a word counter.
  • You can use After The Deadline, which is a spellchecker that also provides other writing suggestions; as such types of automated services go, it's pretty good - and it's a clean and simple interface to check your spelling, regardless of the other suggestions.

You can use this box to create Plain Text, removing any unwanted formatting from the text you are copying. Just paste the text into the box, and then highlight, copy, and paste the resulting plain text that you will see inside the box.
